What is a Doula?



The word “Doula” comes from the Ancient Greek word meaning “a woman who serves.” Today it is used to describe a trained or certified birth professional support person. The concept of women supporting and helping other women during their labour & delivery stems back generations and is still seen today in many different cultures.

A Labour Doula is a support person who provides emotional, informational and physical support during your pregnancy, labour & delivery and postpartum period. A Labour Doula’s primary focus is on your labour & delivery support. They recognize that birth is a life altering experience and also understand the physiology of birth, being able to help with any needs a birthing mother may have.
